History

In September 2017, the new Institute for Particle Physics and Astrophysics (IPA) was created through the merger of the two earlier institutes; Institute for Particle Physics (IPP) and the Institute for Astronomy (IfA).  

This new institute seeks answers to fundamental questions in particle physics and astrophysics through work on world class facilities covering a broad spectrum of research programs.  

By exploiting the close synergies in research themes, instrumentation and data analysis, the merger of astrophysics with particle physics will continue the long legacy of exploration of the universe at ETH Zurich.
